Rabbit Air MinusA2 ultra-quiet Air Purifier - Sylish, Efficient and Energy Star® Certified (SPA-700A) Review

I wanted to post this review mainly because there is no real comparison between Rabbit Air MinusA2 (covers 700 sq. ft.) Ultra-Quiet Air Purifier - 6 Stage Filtration! - built in Mood Light and the Rabbit Air BioGP (model 582A - covers 780 sq. ft.) Ultra-Quiet Air Purifier w/ Germicidal Protection- Low Maintenance - Washable Filters!, Pearl White out there. This is to give you an idea if you're making a choice between the two. [...]

I first purchased the 582A but returned it after a few months of usage due to some minor defect for an exchange with MinusA2 (RabbitAir support was extremely helpful). As a result I have experience with both of these units. The main reason I purchased an Air Purifier was dust elimination and for that particular purpose in mind both these products exceeded my expectations.

In the order of importance for me, these are the differences:
- As I am posting this review MinusA2 is $[...] more expensive than 582A. So why should you even consider MinusA2? Read on...

- Filtering:
(a) MinusA2 has 2 more levels of filtering. The Medium Filter (which filters medium sized particles and increases the efficiency/lifespan of the main HEPA filter) and a Customized Filter of your choice.
(b) On the other hand although RabbitAir boasts about the benefits of BioGP HEPA filters over the regular HEPA filters on their website, it's not clear if the MinusA2 HEPA filter is also BioGP (yet it's made by 3M and looks high quality). The price of the 582A's HEPA filter is more expensive. I am not sure if this is due to the surface area or because 582A's filter is really more effective.

- Noise level: This is where MinusA2 shines due to its more efficient new engine.
(a) I was pleasantly surprised to find out MinusA2 improves quite a bit over already very silent 582A. To compare at different speeds the noise and Clean Air Flow, check the Features tab in RabbitAir's own website for each product.
(b) I am not sure how RabbitAir calculates the sq ft. coverage but I run these units at the highest speed for which noise is acceptable (~ about 30dB in my opinion). Consequently I can run MinusA2 at Medium speed producing 97 Cubic Feet/min of clean air as opposed to 582A's Low speed producing 85 Cubic Feet/min.

- Area of coverage: Although 582A is rated at 780 sq ft. versus 700 sq ft. of MinusA2, if you check the Features tab for each product on RabbitAir's website you'll find out that MinusA2's clean air output is generally higher at the same speed setting as well as its CADR (clean air delivery rate) rating. I imagine RabbitAir's sq ft. calculation is based on the maximum setting in which 582A outputs 208 Cubic Feet/min vs 187 Cubic Feet/min of MinusA2. However I think this is unrealistic and I doubt many of you will choose to use it at the highest setting due to high energy consumption and noise.

- Design and build quality: MinusA2 wins this comparison by far.
(a) I must say though that there's room for improvement for both of these products. For both of them the plastic construction looks a bit cheap although this is more apparent with 582A. I wish their build were metallic.
(b) However MinusA2 is quite handsome overall with its square lines.
(c) It could also be wall mounted.
(d) One more thing I'd like to mention is I really liked the tiny remote of 582A. I think MinusA2's remote is not only less functional but is bulkier for no reason. I also miss 582A's the tiny remote control pocket behind the unit which reduced remote control clutter in the house.
(e) By the way although the mood light of MinusA2 adds to its cool looks, I believe RabbitAir's own claim of the Mood Light "helping normalize blood pressure, pulse, and facilitate deep breathing blah blah" is total nonsense. I think this sounds totally unscientific and if anything has negative influence on my view of RabbitAir as a honest company with high quality products. Also you will find out that you can't change the color of this light as you wish (based on your mood) but the unit sets that itself (based on its own mood).

- Energy consumption: MinusA2 consumes between 8 to 47 Watts whereas 582A consumes between 7 to 67 Watts. I believe the lower consumption of MinusA2 is due to the newer generation Mitsubishi engine employed. Therefore you can expect lower energy usage if you plan to run the unit at anything beyond the Silent setting.

- Sensors:
(a) Note that MinusA2 does not have an odor sensor although 582A has. I think this is quite useful with 582A and I don't understand why RabbitAir chose to drop this from MinusA2.
(b) On the other hand MinusA2 has a light sensor. Certainly it does not help to do a better air purification, but if you're using the Auto mode then the unit goes to the Silent setting automatically a few mins after the lights are dimmed. I think this should've been optional even in the Auto mode but it's a useful feature nevertheless.
(c) The particle sensor of MinusA2 looks more elaborate and I imagine it does a better job.
(d) Furthermore MinusA2 has adjustable sensor sensitivity. This is extremely useful, and the reason I returned 582A was because the sensors of the unit I received was simply too sensitive and was changing from "clean" to "very dirty" for no apparent reason in a split second (during late nights etc when there was no virtual change in room conditions).

Overall I think MinusA2 is a great unit and improves on the already impressive 582A. I thought it's worth the price difference. I already ordered a new one after RabbitAir customer support said they could give me a discount for an additional unit.

Surround Air N-Lite 5000 Multi-Function HEPA Air Purifier Review

So far seems to work great, I ordered 5 of these for work to help cut down on the cold and flu bugs and to help with air quality, myself and another co-worker are always sneezing due to recycled air and since we got these we have not had any problems or itchy eyes. Only down side is, the picture makes it look to be about the size of an alarm clock, I was surprised when they arrived are quite a bit bigger then that. I will add a picture with a something to reference it. Not sure if the dimensions are listed. But anyways, no complaints yet. Sound on medium sounds like a small desk fan...not silent, but not disruptive.

I am a long-time novice photographer, and I bought the G10 looking to expand upon my abilities.Although I have heard that Opteka gear is not top of the line, I must say, I'm pretty impressed with it so far.This kit came in exactly as advertised.I'm not expert, but I haven't noticed any flaws yet -- no noticeable distortion and the build quality seems pretty solid.It's got everything I need to push my photography to the next level.I know that as I work with the kit more, I probably become more cognizant of its limitations, and I'll look to upgrade piece by piece, but it's a fantastic starting point!

- Note that the front group of the wide-angle lens can be detached to leave a macro lens, so you really do have all the pieces you need for a full lens kit.
- I may replace the bag, but it is reasonably well constructed, and large enough to fit my G10 inside my National Geographic camera pouch, my G10 manual, all of the kit, my SD880IS inside a small hard case, all of the necessary cables, 2 spare batteries, and I still have room for some more stuff
- One caveate:the circular polarizer cannot be placed before the wide-angle lens -- vignetting occurs.You will need to purchase a larger polarizer to put on the front of the wide-angle lens if you want to do that

My son's room was always smelly and musty (from carpet, diaper pail, hamper and don't know what else).The air just felt dirty.So I bought this purifier (because it's adorable and good price).I've had it for one week and have definitely noticed a difference in the air quality.The air smells fresher and feels easier to breathe in there.The noise level is very quiet when you have it on low.You can put it on Medium or High when you are away or you need to quickly clean the air - on these higher settings it's very loud but thankfully the low setting is quiet.The only negatives - the blue UV light is VERY BRIGHT.I have to turn the shark away from the crib at night because it's so bright.Overall, I am happy with this purchase!!

UPDATE:I've had this purifier for almost one year now and am still very happy with it!It captures a lot of dust/dirt (apparent from the dirty filter) and the room always smells clean.If I ever turn it off for a long period of time I can notice the musty smell return but it quickly disappears once I turn the filter back on.I finally cut out two small pieces of dark duct tape and put it over the SUPER BRIGHT LED light and now it's not a problem.Very happy.

I had a plumber install the unit and was very glad that I did because there were some leaks that I would not have known how to fix.He had to trim the ends of the tubing and reinsert them into the fittings because a few of the connections leaked.The ends of the tubing were not cleanly trimmed.Also, the fittings are plastic and you have to be really careful not to overtighten them -- which would have been my inclination to fix the leaks.Overall, it is a good RO/UV system for a reasonable price.

I started to run this air purifier exactly 52 hours ago, and it has already changed my quality of life.

I have never owned an air purifier before.I have been literally choking on the air in my own apartment during the several months that I have been living here, and I had extremely unrealistic expectations about an air purifier:I imagined posting something like, "Wow!I could feel the difference after two hours!"Well, OK, it took more than two hours!But it happened.

I started it on low fan with the sanitizer disabled.Then I went to medium fan, then I added the sanitizer on low, then I put the fan on high and the sanitizer on medium.I awoke this morning no longer choking on the air and no longer confronted with the aggressive dusty odor with which I had come to associate my apartment.I left it today with the fan on high and the sanitizer on medium and returned tonight to a completely different atmosphere.

I am not afraid of the ozone produced by the sanitizer but if you are you can choose to run it only once in a while or never.

My only concern is that, unlike some other air purifiers, this one does not have a display light that indicates when the HEPA filter is dirty (and this HEPA filter is permanent if you have a hand vac although you can also choose to buy a replacement filter [also readily available through amazon]).Since this is my first air purifier, a dummy light would have been great.But I went for the price.I guess I'll know when the filter needs vacuuming or changing when I sense that the air is once again heavy with particles.

But no negatives.I love this thing.I want to hug it.

I have two different models of this air filter. We bought one and used it. Then, we bought another unit. They run 24x7 in my house because some family members have allergies and we have multiple pets. I've had no problems at all. The noise level is quite tolerable to us, even with one sitting right behind the sofa. One thing I have to remember to do is turn them on again after a power failure. However, that's a safety feature and I don't want most electrical appliances coming on automatically after a power outage. The big advantage to this brand is that the air filters last longer and are easy to change. In addition, the controls allow the user to select the combination of features he wants to use.

Product works as stated. I noticed a difference in air quality after less than a day of use. The air flow is excellent...many units have restricted flow, but this unit has two fans and is capable of cleaning the air with ease, with out all the noise some other units make on high (Compared to my last 2 Oreck's that were LOUD when put on high). Over all great product for the price. Air purifiers have come a long way in terms of design and technology. I've gone thru the simple HEPA filters, charcoal filter, UV bulbs, electrostatic ionizers, washable collector cells, and controversial ozone emitting products.

Now I'm down to two in my home one of which is the RabbitAir MinusA2 air purifier. I love it's stylish design that doesn't look boring, kitschy, or even gimmicky. I can place it in any part of my home and it doesn't look like an eyesore.

PROS:

1. Design - slim and modern

2. Controls - chrome-like buttons all laid out on one side

3. Remote - a small plastic remote emulating all the chrome buttons on the unit that is especially useful if you decide to hang the unit on a wall

4. Mood Light / Night Light - a horizontal strip of light in the front of the unit which contributes to the ambiance in the home.

5. Technology -

a. Silver Ion Pre-Filter - washable filter similar to A/C units with a fine mesh weave that capture large dust
particles. RabbitAir goes one step further by coating it with silver ions which have been proven to retard or even eliminate bacteria growth.

b. Anti-Bacterial Medium Filter - which appears to be a blue cotton filter and captures finer dust particles, pollen, mold and bacteria.

c. BioGS HEPA filter - (technology found on the previous BioGS models) and captures even more of the above plus fungus, dust mites, odours, smoke and greenhouse gases.

d. Customized Filter - another stage in filtration to specifically tailor to your choice of "Germ Defense", "Pet Allergy" and "Toxin Absorber".

e. Charcoal Based Activated Carbon Filter - the final stage in filtration in an old reliable charcoal filtration method that helps absorb more odours and toxins.

All of the above filters are housed in a relatively sturdy filter case which helps organize and arrange these for easy removal and replacement.

f. Negative Ion Generator - which further helps purify the air by clinging to suspended particles that haven't passed thru the filter and essentially making them fall to the floor rather than float around.

g. Brushless Motor - essentially produces a longer motor life and a quiet operation due to a friction-less design.

6. Filter Life / Cost - Less time consuming and relatively less expensive replacement method by being able to operate for a year in between changes. Of course, regular monthly maintenance is recommended by vacuuming and/or washing the pre-filter as well as cleaning the vents and odour analyzer.

7. Function -

a. Odour Sensor - a vent on the right side that detects changes in air quality and adjusts fan speed accordingly for faster air purification. Of course, effective placement of the air purifier matters for a more effective operation.

b. Light Sensor - detects available light and shuts down the mood light (if used) and air quality indicator.

c. Air Quality Indicator - gives a visual indication of present air quality by changing from blue (good) to purple, pink and then red (bad).

d. Easy front panel removal - no clumsy clips here. Elegant magnet on the bottom and a simple latch on top to facilitate easy pre-filter cleaning and filter replacement.CONS:

My gripe is the filter replacement cost. As of this writing the marketing of the filter can last "up to two years". If you further read the manual and manufacturer FAQ, this of course means operating the unit non-continuously at only 12 hours a day. But RabbitAir has stated this on their website FAQ:

Q: Why should I run my air purifier continuously?

A:To be truly effective, ALL air purifiers should be run continuously. Scientific researches confirm that indoor air pollution rapidly returns to pretreatment levels when an air purifier is turned off.

To truly benefit from the air purifier, then it is a no-brainer to operate it for 24 hours a day (unless it's on a vacation home that sees traffic a few times a year). Which means under "normal use" then filter life is really good for a year. Replacement cost then amounts to $75 a year plus shipping and taxes, where applicable. I would have preferred the manufacturers offer discounted filter service and free shipping KNOWING that loyal customers will be replacing their filters anyway at this predictable time frame.

Throw us a bone and make it more convenient so we won't go looking for other air purifiers down the road.OVERALL:

I would recommend this product with it's higher quality manufacturing and design that sets it apart from other air purifiers. Are the air filters with it's multi-stage redundant layers gimmicky? I don't know. Independent reviews and studies (not provided by the manufacturer) will prove in time. And it does beat simple one-layer filters of other machines, well, at a higher price to pay.

Of course, air purifier manufacturers will tell you that "there is no price to pay for your health". Well there certainly is a price to pay for buying these purifiers and if RabbitAir can improve their product filter replacement cost down the road and independent studies can prove the performance of their filters, then we definitely have a winner in the MinusA2 model.

As for which model to buy - SPA-780A or SPA-700A. I can only say that they are exactly the same on the outside as well as filter replacement parts. The only difference is a more powerful motor to help cover a wider space and essentially guarantee up to 815 sq feet of area as well as a choice of glossy black or glossy white. Choose well.

Pondmaster Pressure Filter 1000 with UV - 10W Review

I've had this filter for 5 years on my pond. Bought it at the recommendation of a local pond supply place. It's garbage. The handle broke first - replaced under warranty, the valve body cracked - replaced under warranty, the inner plastic part that drives the agitator broke - replaced under warranty, the plastic part broke again - replaced the whole lid under warranty. This spring the agitator plastic drive part broke again and I had to spend $100 for a replacement lid. Get the message? Too many broken plastic parts. There has to be a better pressure filter out there. I just have to figure out when I'm going to spend the money to replace it completely.

The only positive thing I can say about this humidifier is that it looks better than those big boxy ones.Oh, and I guess the fact that ours hasn't leaked on the floor (like some other reviewers have had) could be considered a positive.It usually doesn't even last a whole night before running out of water - and it's not like I live in the desert...our house can't be THAT dry.Yet, the room is still dry and we still wake up with sore throats and dry skin.We've had other humidifiers that worked fine, and I'm noticing that those usually shot the humidified air out the top (you know...into the air!).This one shoots the humidified air out near the floor, so it would take 3 days for the room to fill with humid air.The thing rarely shuts off unless the outside air is more humid on that particular day.Speaking of shutting off...doesn't this thing have an automatic shut off when it runs out of water??Ours NEVER shuts off, so when it runs out of water the fan dries up the filter (which you aren't supposed to do).So every night I have to refill the tank and re-soak the filter (which you're also not supposed to do, but I'm not putting in a new $10 filter every night).We haven't been bothered by the noise...it's what you'd expect from any other fan.It's just a constant hum that we kind of like since it drowns out other outside noises.

This item was a direct OEM replacement to the filter that came with my unit.There was NO discrepancies between this one and the original.

Aside from the obvious shipping materials (which were ample):The packaging for this product is minimal: only a purple bag around it.No pointless extra box or other materials you just end up throwing away.The purple bag is "PE rated for recycling.

My last filter lasted 3 years, which is 18 months longer than suggested.How I knew it was time to change out the filter was that the unit began to suck air around the filter instead of through it.I would recommend NOT going quite this long, maybe 24 months.

I did, however, vacuum the filter every month or so with a good HEPA rated vacuum.This will prolong the life of your filter to 24 months, depending on your environment.

I have medium sized decorative pond that gets harsh western sun from about noon until sunset.Ironically, the algae got worse in winter.Visibility in the pond was down to about 1 inch.It was positively disgusting and it stank.

2 week after putting the Pondmaster UV filter into the pond, the water was clear as crystal.

However, as the manufacturer indicates, "filter" isn't the proper terminology.It's a sterilizer.It doesn't eliminate the need for a normal bio filter.This kills the algae and other parasites so the bio filter can remove them from the water.If you have a particularly green pond (as I did) clear the filter pads weekly until you've regained control over the algae.

Again, note that the UV system addresses free algae - not the string algae that grows on the sides.It's basic logic - if the algae is stuck to the side, then it can't pass through the steriliser to be killed.

Change your filter pads regularly until you've gotten past the 2-3 week period when you're waiting for the pea soup to vanish.All that dead algae needs to be removed.Make sure you get any old leaves out too - that will speed things up.

If you don't see results, make sure you have the right wattage, and also adjust the pump to ensure the water isn't moving to fast.Algae cells need about 1-2 full seconds exposure to the lamp to break the cell membrane and kill them.

Bottom line - it does PRECISELY what it says.

Heard good things about the regular Watts water filter, so I decided to move up and get the one with the alarm. Unfortunately, the first unit I received had a small hole at the base of the spout, and a small stream of water sprayed out all over.I returned it and got a new one from Amazon 2 days later that so far, works fine.Could taste the difference in the water once installed (which was so easy I could figure it out without the instructions), and quite satisfied so far.Won't be able to report on how that alarm works for a while, but it starts at 4000, and turns off when using regular tap water and on again when using the filtered water.

Included were the diverting valve, filter wrench and batteries, but only came with one faucet adapter that worked with an outside thread and not for an inside thread.I called the company since Amazon doesn't provide parts and was told an adapter with an inside thread is not included for this model.Therefore I went to Lowe's and picked up an faucet adapter that worked for $2, so no big deal.However, I do feel I really shouldn't have to pay for a part that should be included in every water filter you connect directly to the faucet (might have rated it a 5 if not for that).

I took a chance on a relatively new vendor and I'm glad I did. Hats off to the Umbrella Group. Everything went smoothly and the product was delivered in good shape and on time.
I'm very pleased with the unit. I needed a UV filter for a smaller tank with a hanging filter (so an in-line wouldn't work) and was very happy to find this at a great price. It's whisper-quiet and includes a power head for great circulation.
Two small words to the wise:
1) The product is a snap to set up if you're a little mechanically inclined because the instructions that come with it leave something to be desired. The illustrations are microscopic and the text says to see illustrations that don't exist.
2) Make sure you look at ALL the photos before you decide to put this in a smaller tank (20 g or less). It takes up more room than the main picture might lead you to believe but is rated up to 50g.
With that said, I would heartily recommend this to anyone who's ever dealt with an algae bloom (or anyone who doesn't want to).

Vicks UV 99.999% Germ Free Humidifier Review

After buying two other humidifiers and throwing them away we finally bought this model last year and are very happy with it. The main feature we hated about the other models were Noise and the filters. This model is nice and quiet, it has a low humming sound and a gurgling sound that actually is very tolerable, and maybe even soothing. Our two year old doesn't mind it at all, he sleeps better with it I think. Another advantage of the warm steam is that it keeps my sons room nice and warm and he needs that since he kicks off his blanket most of the time. The warm steam might be a disadvantage for people living in warm dry climate but it works great for northwest winters.
Although this unit does not have a filter a mineral pad comes with it and is recommended to remove minerals from the water if you use tap water. You can't find the pad in most retail stores but can buy it here on Amazon.
Also it has a Ultraviolet Light bulb (great Feature) and after a year of use the Ultraviolet light finally went out and again I bought it here on Amazon. The unit is fairly maintenance free, you should clean it often but its not too bad.
Another great feature is the two water chambers, they hold enough water for the overnight operation so you don't have to worry about running out of water in the middle of the night.
Overall this is the best humidifier that we have owned and I do recommend it.

Pressurized Pond Filter, 3000 UV Review

It took me about 6 months to actually get around to installing this in our pond, mostly because I was redoing the waterfall but I'm also quite lazy.

Previously I had tried using a 200 gallon gravity filter, media filtration, and a skimmer/pump combo. In all cases there was little improvement on algae blossoms, mosquito larvae, and water quality. After talking to a local shop, I sought out this specific filter because they had a lot of success with a showcase koi pond located behind the store.

After reading the relatively detailed instructions and following the advice of pond enthusiasts, installation took about 4 hours due to the rocky soil (it doesn't have to be in the soil but can sit flush). Since filtration efforts had been miserable failures prior to this, my hopes were high but my expectations sat far lower, so I plugged it in and went about my business.

Two weeks to the day, my pond is clear enough to make out fine details along the bottom; including areas where green frogs have burrowed into the muck. Not only is the pond clear enough to make out fine details, I finally discovered where a slow leak was coming from (liner is sinking). As a final reward, of sorts anyway, there was also a revelation in finding two long forgotten lawn ornaments, a bunch of toys tossed in long ago by my daughter or her friends, and the skeletal remains of a cat.

I will have to wait until spring and summer to see how well the UV works on controlling algae at peak levels of sunshine and mosquito larvae but with the rapid development of clarity I am feeling confident that we'll be able to maintain good water quality. Highly recommend this filter!

So this fishmate pressurized filter burst on me after a few months.Have been using it with a 800 gallon per/hour pump from the beginning. The video shows my dead koi, and after about 1 minute in, you can see the actual busted filter with water streaming out. Heartbreaking. I'm staying from Fishmate products in the future. Sure, Sunterra's are not so innovative, but they wont crack open, drain your pond and kill all your hard bred Koi.

A little research pays off! This was my first air purifier purchase. Originally, I was going to buy an ionic one.But, I was amazed once I started researching how little I knew!

In case you're in the same boat, Here's the criteria I ultimately set, ratings for this model on the criteria, and my experience with it:

CRITERIA #1: Must noticably reduce our allergies, clear smoke and odors:5+ Stars!
Have had it two months with a smoker, a hairy dog, and allergy season in full bloom. Reduced allergies and no breathing problems at home since we got it. Noticable quick removal of odors and smoke!

(NOTE: More power than I even intended. You may be able to get a cheaper model if you don't want all this one has:
A) Electrostatic/Ionic- attracts pollutants from a wide area, but not odors and allergens
B) Carbon - clears smoke, odors and pollutants but not germs and allergens
C) HEPA - traps even the smallest of allergens, but nothing else
D) UV - destroys bacteria and germs, but not allergens, pollution or smoke - cheaper models offer only HEPA and UV filters.)

Best Added Feature: The sensor lights that let you know the status of your air quality - and then watching them go off when it's corrected the problem.

CRITERIA #2: Low/No ozone model! 5+ stars.
I found that the old sharper image-type ionic-only models (many still on the market at reduced prices) only clean pollutants, but not odors and allergens.Worse, they generate ozone at a level that can exacberate asthma problems. The electrostatic filter combined with the ionic one in this model - eliminate that problem. Look for one that has this!

CRITERIA #3: High area coverage: 4.5 stars.
I found an obscure site that lists air purifiers and their coverage areas and particle levels. This one seems to cover about 1,200 sq. ft. - or more than double what is listed. But, even with what was listed, proved to be the best ranked in comparison with price levels.

CRITERIA #4: Low Noise: 4-stars.
We keep it in the living room mostly on auto. On low and medium, it's very quiet. On automatic mostly very quiet, unless it's under attack from something like cooking or opening the door frequently. On high, it makes a noticable "white noise". But, it's OK good for falling asleep and not so loud you can't hear the TV. Wouldn't put it on "high" regularly though.

My budget was $200.I went over that slightly. But, the filters on this one are so much cheaper than the models I compared it to that the extra $40 should more than pay out.

BOTTOM LINE: I chose this one based on research, but I highly recommend it for quality and value! If you want to cleaner, fresher air and reduced home allergies without intrusive noise - at the price, I'm not sure you can do better.

I just finished installing one of these on my home in Hawaii where we use rainwater catchment as our water source.I'm happy with both the quality and the price. I doesn't come with filters like many of the other UV units so you do need to add a filter and a pre-filter to the water line before it enters the UV unit. But even after adding two filters the price is still reasonable.The first unit arrived with a broken bulb but Amazon had a replacement to me within four days.The second had a broken glass sleeve so between the two I had what I needed.Note to Amazon: packing peanuts!

This filter worked great.Cleared up my pond in 5 days.Crystal clear.The only down side is, it was not made clear that this filter requires a seperate outside pump to run it.So plan on spending another $100 on a pump and hoses.

We have a well over a pasture and it gets contaminated.We discovered that some of our intestinal problems were related to Giardia and Chryptosporidia.Boiling and distilling water took a lot of time and energy - very costly.I didn't like the idea of whole house UV because you have to leave it on all the time.We don't have room for the chlorine drip tank system.This small, inexpensive, easy to install system in combination with some poly carb tanks has given us biologically safe water to drink without having to haul it from the store.Also store bought water come in plastic that has to be recycled and can be contaminated with bisphenol-a. We turn this system on only once or twice a week to fill up the drinking water containers.I learned that turning on/off the bulbs substracts 6hrs. from the bulb life. But if you only turn it on once of twice a week, you still extend the bulb life. This product has been a great solution for us.

Sunterra 300207 Pond UV Bio-Filter 2000 Gallons, Black Review

I got a Sunterra pond filter as part of a complete pond kit. At first, I was quite happy with the filtration provided, but quickly learned that there are other issues with this filter design that make it worthless.

1) The clamps are designed to fail. There is no other way to look at it. They are attached to the filter bucket, and snap over the lid. Around the circumference of the lid is a thin O-ring gasket. This gasket is nearly impossible to keep in place as you are putting the lid over the bucket. Further, even if you do get it in place and sealed correctly, it is not likely to stay there long. The major problem is that Sunterra used cheap, thin plastics throughout this filter. When I turn the pump on, I can actually see the entire filter bucket stretch, and it rises up out of the hole in the ground about an inch. This stretching of the plastic weakens it. The clamps also stretch, and after less that one season, lost their ability to securely hold the lid in place. The result is that any time power is cut to the pump, some of the clamps will release because they don't have enough force to hold the lid down when the pump is not pushing against them. When the power is restored and the pump pressurizes the filter, it will leak profusely between the lid and bucket.

We have left home for several hours only to return and discover that our power went out for whatever reason, and when it was restored the filter leaked, resulting in a near-total drain of our pond and destruction of our pump as it ran dry. Luckily the pump was high enough off the bottom of the pond that our fish still had some water, and so survived.

2) The restricted filter indicator doesn't work, at all. I've had the filter so clogged up that water was barely coming through the filter at all, and still the red clogged-filter indicator never popped up.

3) The reverse-flow cleaning system doesn't work, at all. In order to clean the filter, you have to disassemble it and wash out the sponges with a garden hose. This is the only way to get them clean. You could run your entire pond's water supply through the filter and it would do nothing to clean it. This is nothing more than a joke.

4) The sliding selector for run or clean is also prone to leaks. The design is simply poor, but might have had a chance of working if Sunterra had not used such thin and cheap plastics.

In the end, there is no fix for this junk filter. I've contacted Sunterra and they sent me replacement clamps. Those lasted no longer than the originals. Avoid this filter, it is not worth any money or your time and frustration. If this is any indication of the quality of Sunterra products, I would avoid the company altogether. I would have rated this item at zero stars if that were available. Maybe I can make a planter out of the filter bucket- that's about all it would be good for.
